Interview themes

Based on expert contribution by 40 participants from knowledge artefacts users and providers, from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Greece, four main themes emerged.

Theme 1: use and provision of knowledge artefacts

The processes and habits of creating, accessing, sourcing, and updating knowledge artefacts by users and providers are explored initially within the first theme. These are then understood in relation to the support structures, and the plurality of formats and media needed for knowledge artefacts.

Theme 2: ecosystem-wide considerations

This theme looks at the bigger picture of knowledge artefacts as social goods, as Participant U2 called them. They are examined in relation to organisational priorities, cul-tural heritage identity and ethos, and their role across different countries and subject specialisms.

Theme 3: technology apps and downs

Technology, including AI, are increasingly used across every single operation, but the technological provision is still bitty, part of the era of bolt-on apps rather than comprehensive software systems.
